What Is Unconditional love? Does It Really Exist?
love is a very common term and often one of the most abused expressions in the thesaurus. All men know about love. At least they got ideas about love. Even a child knows this word yet, only a few understand the true definition of love. Some people define love as a deep tender and passionate affection. Some believe it is a strong afinity. A couple would say that love is bliss.
It seems that love is vague and very intricate to define. You can skim hundreds of dictionaries, famous psychology books and authors however they all fail to define the true meaning and essence of love. To know the real meaning of love, we should refer to God, the author of love. As a matter of fact, God is love.
God does not simply love but He is love. It is His very essence. The whole thing that God does is because of His love. It is not a senseless and sentimental love that people feel.
The bible teaches that “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails”
That depiction of love is not just a fantasy or affection, a temporary affection, a growing craving or a matter of favor. People are mistaken about love and how to stay in love. Mainly, people only focus on the nobleness of the person they love. Absolutely, it is easy to love people who are your own flesh and blood or your comrade who stayed with you through thick and thin. What if that person is no good, a rebel in the crowd? What if you are not blood related and he or she is your enemy? Are you ready to do the things mentioned in the bible?
Unconditional means pure or not limited by stipulations. Eagerness to love and to do the things described in the bible regardless of who the person is and what he or she does is called unconditional love. This kind of love was first demonstrated by God to us by sending His begotten son to save us from eternal death and for us to be called His children. And He did this while we were all sinners and undeserving of the priceless gift of eternal life. God loved us even if we are disloyal and disobedient. Our nature does not know how to love others even ourselves. But because God showed His love through His son Jesus, we now have a good picture of love and most of all - unconditional love.
You may perhaps be asking if humans are capable to love unconditionally. The good thing is that God has given those who receive His son Jesus the gift of eternal life and the ability to love unconditionally. This is through the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells on them.
Knowing God’s love gives wholeness to your life. Only His love satisfies thus allows you to savor and have a significant life. Allow God to show and experience His love through believing in His son Jesus Christ and giving your life to Him. Then love will certainly overflow and empowers you to love other people unconditionally through the Holy Spirit.
